Retail Store of the Year: Specialty Food
2004

High-quality oil and vinegar products from around the world are showcased in Oil & Vinegar, a 1,300-sq-ft. specialty shop, imported from The Netherlands. The prototype for the US market has an artisan or handcrafted feel, with faux-finished floors, tumbled tile and Venetian plaster walls. The deep plum, rich olive and gold color palette enhances the old-world ambience. The design promotes exploration and discovery, allowing consumers ample opportunities to touch, smell and experiment with how the products can be used. The highlight of the space is an internally lit wall on which large containers of different oils are suspended. After customers choose a bottle, the staff helps them select an oil, pouring it from the large containers.
