Enticing
foodies like college kids to a pub crawl, Oil & Vinegar's glass
flasks of exotic vinegars and oils gleam against an illuminated
wall. Yes, saffron is available here, and feta paste too. A dry
bruschetta mix, affectionately known as Tuscany in a jar, is a
best-seller. (If your pulse isn't racing by now, you may not be
a foodie.) Haven't tried hot sauce from South Africa? Better
scoot over to the tasting table pronto. This isn't just a
venture for mix-masters of salad vinaigrette and dippers;
novices will find the tastings and an eager-to-please staff
inspirational enough to forage out armed with recipes.
Launched almost three years after Wim
and Lara Schalken first spotted an Oil & Vinegar store in Europe
and discovered their calling, the Galleria location is just one
of a few franchises in the U.S. Offering about 18 types of oil
and 10 vinegars in flasks, shoppers can select baskets and
shelves of bottles and then fill'er up. A changing selection of
spices, sauces, pasta and international treats keep it exciting. |
